An Anniversary Tribute (1982)

A family poem by Mike — faithfully transcribed and preserved.

Typed transcription

The sun shone on the day we wed,
An omen that was true,
Most of our days are memory-lit,
Few of them are blue.

A simple, perhaps a humble life,
But rich in many ways,
Who can measure the value
Of so many happy days?

Fortunate are we, after these years,
To share each other's way,
To indulge our differing tastes,
Giving no cause to stray.

Reasonable health and a loving wife,
Sufficient means for the day,
If a man wants more than this
Then he doesn't go my way.

Whatever years we have in store,
I'm thankful for those we've had,
You have been a lovely person—
How could I be sad?

This Anniversary we do share,
The best present you can give:
To be as always near and kind,
And enjoy the life we live.
